Taligent Transition Into IBM Scheduled by Year-End

IBM announced on September 16th that the transition of Taligent into IBM will be completed by the end of this year, when the Taligent subsidiary will be officially dissolved. Taligent's 100 or so software engineers will be offered positions at IBM's Santa Teresa Laboratory to work on key components for IBM's VisualAge for Java programming tools, and at the recently announced Java porting center that IBM is setting up with Sun Microsystems and Netscape.

According to John Swainson, General Manager, Application Development, Software Solutions Division, IBM:

"Today's move to eliminate the additional layer of a corporate infrastructure completes the transition of Taligent into IBM. I'm very delighted that we can start the Center off with such talented folks."
